Boosting Hands-On AI and HPC Skills across Europe
The summer of 2025 marks the conclusion of a successful training season and opens the door to a new challenge in October: the EuroCC AI Hackathon.
Running from April 8 to July 10, 2025, a series of bootcamps hosted by EuroCC National Competence Centres, OpenACC Organization and NVIDIA boasted over 600 participants. The skills development covered a range from the fundamentals of GPU programming for HPC applications to advanced multi-GPU profiling techniques for AI codes. The AI for Science Bootcamp set new records with more than 200 participants gaining hands-on experience in building and improving physics-informed neural networks.

Building Hands-On Skills Together
The initial goal of the EuroCC training programme was to raise technical skills in the fields of HPC and AI.
“As the demand for training grew over time, we naturally wanted to accommodate more and more users in our programmes,” shares Claudia Blaas-Schenner, head of training at ASC, TU Wien. “We quickly realized that no single center or cluster could host the growing audience, so we expanded our partner network and the joint effort of multiple centers made acceleration in HPC and AI accessible to all.”
So seven EuroCC National Competence Centres (NCCs) joined forces and enabled the bootcamps to run on 4 different clusters: Vienna Scientific Cluster 5 (VSC-5), Athena, Jureca-DC, and Leonardo. This variety offered attendees a diverse experience in gaining hands-on skills in accelerated computing, further enhanced by a one-to-one access to technology experts for in-depth project discussions.
Coming up: EuroCC AI Hackathon
Following intensive training, participants are invited to tackle new challenges in porting and optimizing their applications for GPUs: The EuroCC AI Hackathon, hosted in partnership with EuroCC National Competence Centres of Austria, Germany, and Poland, is an intensive multi-day hands-on event where the participants receive personalized mentorship from experts in the latest technology stacks.
Designed to help AI and ML engineers accelerate, optimize, and scale their real-world projects, the EuroCC AI Hackathon runs October 14 to October 23, 2025.
Join to advance your codes and work alongside computational science teams from academia, startups, enterprises, and public administration addressing the challenges of porting, accelerating and optimizing their AI applications.
Apply to the EuroCC AI Hackathon before August 5, 2025
